• Parental involvement in the 4-H Program is vital to its success.

4-H leaders and Extension staff may interest youth in becoming members, but it takes parents' good will and support to keep them interested. A child's attitude and accomplishments are influenced strongly by those of
his parents.

• It is important to see the 4-H parent.

Participation in the 4-H program can help the parent feel they are contributing to their community and to the development of their own child and other children. The 4-H program offers many opportunities for families
to do things together; thus, it can develop FAMILY UNIT.

• Involvement to promote family unity
  
  1. Lend kitchen, backyard, living room, garage, or basement for an occasional meeting.
  2. Help provide light refreshments. (Your 4-H members serve them and a committee helps clean-up.)
  3. Share a special interest or hobby with the group.
  4. Help is a car pool for transportation to 4-H meetings.
  5. Chaperone for tour, picnic, party, or dinners.
  6. Help telephone parents for last minute announcements.
  7. Encourage my son or daughter to start and complete projects on time with all information as stated
     in project instructions and county rules.
  8. Provide assistance for my son or daughter to attend all meetings (at least 60%) or to notify both host(ess) and leader if unable to attend.
  9. Assist my son or daughter to develop and present a show and tell or demonstration on their 4-H project or a related topic.
  10. Assist leaders when requested to willingly serve in the following areas:
      • Hosting
      • Assist at county fair
      • Assist local 4-H club meetings
      • Fund raising program planning
      • Fine arts
      • Help identify community resources for the club

Remember your leaders are volunteering their time!
